April is Stress Awareness Month

As a busy mom, stress is high and self-care is often missed. Many moms prioritize others over themselves and suffer physically, mentally and emotionally. In 2023, almost 10 million moms suffered from burnout.

We, as women, need to remember to care for ourselves, even amid stressful times, so we can care for others. Guilt, low self-esteem, anger, stress and exhaustion are some signs of burnout.

Self-care is a great solution to the problem of stress.

I interviewed my favorite person on this topic, Aryienne Cargle, owner of Ary’s Brows, a place where I go for the best self-care. And for those wondering where a pageant mom goes for self-care, I go to the LT Nail Spa in Beavercreek and get my hair done by Ralea Cortner at Queen Status Hair Salon in Dayton.

What is the most helpful advice you have for women?

The best advice I have for any woman is to take care of yourself. I would tell every woman that you need to take care of yourself first because if you don’t take care of yourself first, you won’t be able to properly take care of anyone else. Being a great mother, great wife, great businesswoman, great member of a church, great employee, great caregiver, great friend, great sister, great daughter, great associate, great leader, great member of society, or a great community member are all wonderful qualities. But those titles mean nothing when you are drained and have nothing left to give to others or yourself. To give from an empty place is not to give, it will leave you drained, feeling inadequate and unworthy of what you have worked hard to obtain.

What tips do you give others on self-care and managing stress?

Make sure that you know how to fill yourself back up before you give to others. One of the quickest ways to fill yourself up is to always remember to forgive and to move on quickly. Hanging onto old things, bad habits and problems will hold you back from what you can truly obtain in life. Lastly, spiritual, physical and mental health are very important. Don’t forget to take care of your body; if you don’t take care of your body now it will remind you later!

What is one habit you wish could replace?

One habit I wish I could replace is overthinking. The reality is that thinking is a hindrance. So many of us overthink things.
