Two Digits {Celebrating the Milestone Birthdays}

My son is about to turn 10, TWO DIGITS. I’ve been through other milestones with my older boys, but this one gets me every time.

For some reason that I can’t put into words, this milestone of hitting two digits puts a lump in my throat.

10 seems like a BIG DEAL, even though I know the decade to come has challenges and milestones of its own, but 10?

When your child turns 10, you realize that they are not a little kid anymore and can do so many things on their own.

When your child turns 10, you realize that they know the standards and boundaries that you have spent the last decade laying down for them.

When your child turns 10, you realize that they are going to start making decisions on their own and that they do not need your help to figure it out.

When your child turns 10, you realize that they are no longer the little boy or girl but are now becoming a hormonal little pre-teen.

When your child turns 10, you realize that they are figuring out what they are good at and excel at and are heartbroken by what they are not so talented at.

When your child turns 10, you realize that they are trading in the stuffed animals for the electronics.

When your child turns 10, you realize that you need to choose your words carefully because your child is a sponge and is always listening.

When your child turns 10, you realize that they are not your little baby, toddler, or little child anymore, but they are onto the next phase and it is a phase of independence.

When your child turns 10, you realize that what they read and watch and do will have such an important impact on the development of their brain.

When your child turns 10, you realize that it is a big deal and they think it’s a big deal, so celebrate them appropriately.

1-0, two digits. I’m here for it, bring it on… let this new adventure begin!

Hey local mommas! I grew up in Centerville, but I now live in Wilmington with my husband Tony. Together we have 6 kids, Joe, and his wife Allison, Austin, and his wife Hannah, Sydney and her husband Hayden, Andrew and his wife Lauren and our littles, Max and Eli. Did I mention we are a little nuts starting over with this parenting thing when we are 45+? We are officially adding new titles to our names in 2022- Tiki and Jeep (our version of Grandma and Grandpa). My husband and I are both ministers, and we get to work together in a local church. We were both married before and brought our families together in 2010. After a few years of marriage we felt God's leading for us to adopt. We added Max to our family in 2014 and Eli joined us in 2017, our quiver is officially full! Blending our family has been an adventure! Add some ex-spouses and two birth mommas and we have ourselves a crazy crew! Coffee is my love language. The beach is my happy place and I long to have my toes in the sand. I love being part of the team at Dayton Mom Collective.
