A Buckeye in Da Ville {Exploring Louisville on a Weekend Getaway}

Our plans fell through.

We had booked and paid for a cute little cabin in the mountains of NC for our first time away from our kiddos (kiddos are 7 and 4, and I know this trip was far overdue).

Bargaining with my husband, I made him a deal. I would go away for two nights on a romantic getaway if any thought of a 50th birthday celebration was squashed.  He booked and paid for a romantic trip a year before that milestone birthday.

The week before the trip, he confirmed with the cute little cabin and there had been a mistake. They had booked us for the wrong month; feeling awful about the mix-up, they went out of their way to reschedule and refund some of our money.

So what now? Our plans fell through.

We had our boys taken care of and decided to make some lemonade out of these lemons.

We kept throwing ideas out as to where we could go, and what to do, and my husband threw out the idea of Louisville. So naturally, I went to Louisville Mom Collective as a resource, and WOW, so very helpful. So we decided on two nights and three days in downtown Louisville.

We explored downtown Louisville and tried every coffee shop, ate delicious food downtown, and even ventured away from downtown for a trip to a winery and a trip to an arboretum and research forest.

Some of our favorites were 4th Street Live (4th street has transformed into a great nightlife spot with live music and so much to see and do) as well as the Louisville Slugger Museum and people watching. Did I mention four coffee shops within walking distance of our 4-star hotel that we booked for a steal?

From the 23rd floor, we could see the city (it was gorgeous at night) and an amazing Indian wedding in the courtyard from our room during one of our days.

There was so much to do in Louisville and the surrounding areas. We only scratched the surface of what there is to do in the Da Ville, Derby City, River City, or the Gateway to the South. Whatever you want to call it, make plans to visit now; you won’t be disappointed!

I’m so glad our plans fell through because Louisville was amazing.

Hey local mommas! I grew up in Centerville, but I now live in Wilmington with my husband Tony. Together we have 6 kids, Joe, and his wife Allison, Austin, and his wife Hannah, Sydney and her husband Hayden, Andrew and his wife Lauren and our littles, Max and Eli. Did I mention we are a little nuts starting over with this parenting thing when we are 45+? We are officially adding new titles to our names in 2022- Tiki and Jeep (our version of Grandma and Grandpa). My husband and I are both ministers, and we get to work together in a local church. We were both married before and brought our families together in 2010. After a few years of marriage we felt God's leading for us to adopt. We added Max to our family in 2014 and Eli joined us in 2017, our quiver is officially full! Blending our family has been an adventure! Add some ex-spouses and two birth mommas and we have ourselves a crazy crew! Coffee is my love language. The beach is my happy place and I long to have my toes in the sand. I love being part of the team at Dayton Mom Collective.
