Easy Choices for Picky Eaters at Whole Foods Market

Like most first-time parents, I was naive. I’d hear friends and family talk about their picky eaters and I’d think about all the ways that I’d make sure that didn’t happen with my kid. Then I had a child, she got teeth, and she started eating everything! I’d done it. I’d raised a good eater.

Until one day my baby woke up and she was a toddler. As a toddler, she developed opinions. Her opinion of the food I was trying to feed her? No. No. No. My easy eating baby is now a picky toddler.

I’m learning that getting my picky eater to try things is all about choices. One of our favorite places to shop and eat (and maybe have a drink) is Whole Foods Market. They help with my picky eater in three ways.

1. Samples

We love to walk around Whole Foods Market and try all of the samples; especially in the cheese section. If it’s a sample, my kid wants it. Whole Foods Market offers samples all over the store. We’ve even found some foods that our kiddo loves by trying the samples. In addition, they’ve got a little treasure chest at the entrance for kids to grab a free treat (usually fruit, crackers, or a breakfast bar).

2. Kids Eat Free on Wednesdays

We’re big fans of free. Every Wednesday, kids under 12 eat free from 4-8:30pm. The offer is good with an adult purchase of $10 or more from the prepared foods department and is for dine-in only.

What better way for picky eaters to try new things than to choose from so many delicious items for free?!

When we went for our first time, my daughter’s eyes got huge as she looked at me making her plate. Full disclosure- she had a little bit of a meltdown while waiting for me to pay because she wanted the plate. Mom tip: they don’t need to weigh the kid’s plate, so go ahead and let them have a bite.

She ate pizza, zucchini, squash, sweet potatoes, berries, and more! I couldn’t believe how much she ate. I got to enjoy some brisket (yum!) and some veggies.

3. Easy Choices

My favorite choices are those that are easy to make. At Whole Foods, I know I can let my kid choose without worrying about ingredients. With their 365 Everyday Value brand, I can get quality products without breaking the bank so that we can try lots of different things.

The bright side? We get to eat whatever our picky eaters turn away! I might throw a few things on my kid’s plate with that in mind.
