I recently discovered that this is an actual day that people celebrate. (A quick Google search brings up a lot of information and images, who knew!) National Lazy Mom Day is celebrated every September on the first Friday of the month. This year it is on Friday, Sept. 1, 2023.
I definitely think moms deserve a break and deserve to be celebrated.
I mean one day isn’t really enough. They say that being a mom is the same as working multiple full-time jobs, so it only seems fitting that we get multiple days to take a break. I mean we all can fill our “mom resumes” with teacher, conflict manager, chef, chauffeur, maid, and play engineer.
I can think of a lot of things I would add to my list of things I would like to do with a day to do nothing productive:
- Read a book
- Take a bubble bath
- Binge my favorite show
- Order lots of takeout
It sounds so lovely to have an entire day to do whatever you want, but I don’t think it means that us moms are lazy. Moms are far from lazy. We are hardworking superheroes. We definitely deserve a break, but let’s be honest, do we ever truly get one?
On Sept. 1, I will definitely get behind ordering takeout (because who wants to cook or do dishes?), but I have a feeling my shows and pampering will have to wait. Fridays are full of gymnastics, grocery shopping, and playing games. Post bedtime routine sounds like a great time to get a break, but I am sure my eyes will be closed 5 minutes after I start the DVR.
Fellow moms, if you actually get a break on Friday, I am happy for you. You deserve it. We all deserve it. We deserve to enjoy our coffee while it’s still warm and to watch a grownup show.
