February Dayton Dozen: Guide to Family-Friendly Events

Looking for some fun ways to beat the winter blues? Well, look no further! We’ve got you covered with everything from art experiences to car shoes and lots of other exciting events in between!



1. All Night Ride @ Mike’s Bike Park

***DMB Tip*** This is a great event for older kids, but younger ones are welcome too – with an adult!

  • February 1st; 10pm-7am
  • Admission is $25 per person; Pizza provided free
  • Children 12 and under must have an adult (18+) present with them

Bikes, scooters, skateboards, and more are welcome! Ride all through the night on the first Friday of every month!

2. Hannah’s Treasures Volunteers @ Hannah’s Treasure Chest

  • February 4th; 6:30pm-8:30pm
  • Free

An evening of service at Hannah’s Treasure Chest. Tasks are light work involving mostly sorting and packaging. This is a family friendly outreach activity open to adults, youth and kids. 

3. ArtVentures @ The Dayton Art Institute

***DMB Tip***  This brand new program occurs the second & fourth Saturday of each month!

  • February 9th; 1pm-3pm
  • Drop-in program
  • Admission is $10/family of four (members); $15/family of four (non-members); $2/each additional child

Take your family on an ARTventure at the museum for fun art-making experiences! On February 9th, they will be demonstrating how to screen print like Andy Warhol. This program is perfect for all ages and all levels of artistic ability. All materials are provided.

4. Kids’ Night In – Valentine’s Themed @ Needle Ink & Thread

***DMB Tip*** This is a monthly event with new projects each month!

  • February 8th; 5:30pm-8:30pm
  • $45 per child – Includes cheese pizza & all supplies
  • For ages 10-14

After dinner, kids enjoy creative play while learning a new craft.  This month, they will create Valentine’s Cards and an Embroidered gift (hand stitching wool felt and cardstock).

5. Valentine Themed Fairy Garden Party @ Grandma’s Gardens

***DMB Tip*** Parent or grandparent/child teams are welcome to work together!

  • February 9th; 1pm
  • Admission is $40 per person or team
  • Includes all materials, mini plants, accessories, & fairy

Create a whimsical fairy garden with a Valentine’s Day theme to take home and enjoy.  Before and during the workshop, from 11-2 , they will be hosting the “Puppy Love” adoption event with special guests from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. Please call 937-885-2740 or stop in the Gift Shop to make your party reservation.

6. Parents’ Night Out @ Busy Kids Gymnastics

***DMB Tip***  Dress your kids in gym clothes for comfort & safety! (No zippers or buttons)

  • February 9th; 5pm-8:30pm
  • Admission is $25 per member, $35 per non-member
  • For children ages 3-12 (must be potty trained)

Your kids will have a great time playing at Busy Kids Gymnastics while you enjoy an evening out! They have a bounce house, open gym, games, pizza, crafts, & more for your kids to enjoy. Pre-registration is required. 

7. Parent & Child Wheel Pottery Workshop @ Decoy Art Studio

***DMB Tip*** Wear something that you don’t mind getting a little messy!

  • February 16th; 3:30pm-4:15pm
  • Ages 4-8 with a parent
  • Admission is $28 per wheel  (parent/child partner on one wheel)
  • Registration is required

This class is designed for the parent/child team to work together on the a wheel using 1.5 lbs of clay to create a unique piece of their own. You get your own hands-on experience working together with clay on the wheel. Choose one of your small creations to be fired for you, then return to paint it in about a week.

8. TechFest 2019 @ Sinclair Conference Center 

***DMB Tip*** It is located in Building 12  of their downtown campus on West 4th Street.

  • February 16th; 10am-6pm
  • February 17th; 11am-5pm
  • Free Admission & Free Parking

This is a great 2-day family event with over 70 hands-on STEM activities, presentations, and in-character STEM demonstrations. Experience robots in action, assemble activities with other kids, and enjoy an entire conference center full of inspiring information!

9. Presidents’ Day Ice Skate @ RiverScape Metro Park

***DMB Tip*** This event is weather-dependent, so be sure to check their event page before heading out!

  • February 18th; 11am-2pm
  • Admission is $7 – includes skate rental
  • Children 3 and under are free (with paying adult)

School is out, and skating is in! Enjoy the day ice skating at RiverScape Metro Park with friends and family!

10. Dayton Auto Show @ Dayton Convention Center

***DMB Tip*** Buy your tickets online ahead of time & save $2 per ticket!

  • February 21st-24th; times vary each day
  • Admission is $6 for online ticket purchases; $8 at the door
  • Children 9 and under are free
  • Free Admission for anyone with a military I.D. on the 21st & 22nd

Vehicles from over 25 different manufacturers will be on display, plus there will be the Toyota Drive Center, Fiat Chrysler Ride & Drive Experience, a photo scavenger hunt, balloon artists, & face painting! Fun for the whole family!

11. The Dinosaur Quest of Dr. T-Rex @ The Victoria Theater

***DMB Tip*** The 11:30 a.m. performance will be sign interpreted and/or audio described upon request. 

  • February 22nd; 9:30am & 11:30am
  • Recommended for children in grades K-8th
  • Admission is $5

Dr. T-Rex takes the audience on a tour through the Age of Dinosaurs. What happened 165 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the planet? Using his six life-size dinosaur puppets and lots of audience participation, Dr. T-Rex shows students why “It stinks to be extinct.” 

12. Around the World in 80 Days @ Human Race Theater

“Around the World in 80 Days” at the Human Race Theatre Company February 28 – March 17, 2019, Jules Verne’s classic tale springs to life in this clever, fast-paced comedy for the whole family. Proper gentleman Phileas Fogg strikes a wager and sets off on a race that puts his fortune and life at risk. With his faithful servant at his side, he has just 80 days to circle the globe–an inconceivable feat in the year 1872!
