Holiday Baking Traditions

0

One of my favorite parts about the holidays is the gatherings. It’s the perfect time of year to slow things down a bit and really enjoy the time we have with loved ones. Taking every opportunity to truly be present in all the moments, big and small, that we’re gifted.

It’s a beautiful thing.

I also really enjoy all of the many traditions we get to create and be a part of. They’re the foundations on which family is built upon. But who could forget about all the yummy food? Some of the best times are when these two things get to mingle.

Wouldn’t you agree?

Long before I married into my husband’s family, and in the many years since, they have gathered together for the ultimate cookie baking extravaganza. It’s the most epic event of the year. And honestly something I hope we always find time to do.

We’ll make dozens upon dozens of assorted cookies to send off to loved ones, near and far, and of course, we sneak away a few for ourselves. It’s fun for all ages and gives us time together we don’t always get throughout the year.

Out of all the cookies we make – peanut butter, snicker-doodle, sugar, and more – my absolute favorite has and will always be the crinkle cookie. If you’ve never experienced this deliciousness before, then you’re in for a treat.

I’m sharing this amazing recipe for you all to enjoy below.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 oz unsweetened baking chocolate, melted, cooled
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar

Steps

1. In a large bowl, mix oil, chocolate, granulated sugar and vanilla. Stir in eggs, one at a time. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover; refrigerate at least 3 hours.
2. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease cookie sheet with shortening or cooking spray.
3. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls into powdered sugar; shape into balls and roll around to coat. Place about 2 inches apart on cookie sheets.
4. Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until edges are set. Immediately remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks.

So there you have it. It’s a fairly simple recipe that packs big flavor. We’ve also tried a lemon version that was beyond amazing. If you end up trying this recipe out let us know in the comments, or you can share your favorite Christmas cookie, too.
What are some of your family traditions? Do you have cookie-baking parties, too?
