April brings warmer weather and the beginning signs of Spring. Get out and enjoy the activities that will be offered in and around Dayton, which include many beyond this short list. There are some great ones this month!

1. FRIDAY APRIL 1ST- FRIDAY APRIL 29TH FREE

Earth Month Scavenger Hunt with Centerville-Washington Park District

After registering for the program, you’ll receive weekly clues for a specific park location and activity to work towards becoming a Planeteer Superhero. Prizes awarded for competition of the challenge with a chance for a grand prize drawing. This is a great way to visit parks you might not otherwise think about.

2. FRIDAY APRIL 1ST 8pm-9:30 FREE

Frog Walk with Miami County Park District

John A. Wannemacher Nature Reserve
1876 Monroe-Concord Rd, Troy, OH 45373

Preregistration is required for this all-age walk through wetlands (make sure and wear appropriate shoes). Listen for and learn to identify frogs and toads on a 1-2 mile hike. 

3. SATURDAY APRIL 2ND 9:30am FREE

Science Saturdays with the Dayton Regional Stem Center

Engineers Club of Dayton

Geared towards 2nd-5th graders, this month features Gross Science for their STEM show. Doors open at 9am. 

4. SATURDAY APRIL 2ND 10am-1 FREE

Genealogy Fun 1950 US Census Release Party with Washington Centerville Public Library

Librarians will be ready to help you explore the newly released 1950 Census data. Explore your family history in a new way. While at the library check out their Maker Kits. Our family enjoys the Button Machine. Everything you need to make one-of-a-kind buttons with 10 blanks included (purchase more blanks at the reference desk).

5. TUESDAY APRIL 5TH 10am-11:30 $10/student

April Showers with Challenger Learning Center-Dayton

1401 Leo St., Dayton, OH 45404

4-6 Year Old Tiny Tots explore the water cycle with model clouds, rains ticks and an indoor storm. Check out Challenger’s other opportunities like Homeschool Labs and Scout programs.

6. SUNDAY APRIL 10TH 2pm FREE

Chris Rowlands Concert with Wright Memorial Public Library

1776 Far Hills Ave, Oakwood, OH 45419

Enjoy an outdoor concert (weather permitting) of a local treasure. When not working as an Aullwood Educator, Chris shares beautiful backdrops, amazing puppets and educational tunes you’ll start singing along! A family favorite to see live. Bring cash to buy a CD or art prints. 

7. TUESDAY APRIL 12TH 6:30pm-7:30 FREE

Craft-tastic Crafts with Dayton Metro Library

Vandalia Branch

Registration required for this 18+, all supplies included, monthly craft hour. Enjoy the time of creativity (sign up with a friend), with no prep or clean up! 

8. SATURDAY APRIL 16TH 9pm-10 FREE

Full Moon Hike with Greene County Parks and Trails

Pearl’s Fen
4524 Byron Road, Fairborn, OH 45324

No registration required for this night hike. Well behaved dogs allowed. Enjoy the parks at a time they’re usually closed. Everything is different in the park at night. 

9. APRIL 26TH, 27TH, 30TH and MAY 3RD 

How I Became a Pirate, Lunch and Learn Children’s Theater with La Comedia

Tickets are $10+fees and come with a lunch. Give your family a “first taste of Broadway.” with this affordable and approachable live theatre experience. 

10. THURSDAY APRIL 28TH 10am-11 FREE

Clever Colors with Five Rivers Metroparks

Preregistration is required for this Tike Hike for 3-5 year olds. Explore natures colors through mimicry and camouflage among other utilizations. If you’re not tuckered out, explore the 81-step Tree Tower for a great view.

11. SATURDAY APRIL 30TH 10am-11:30 FREE

Fairy and Gnome Day with Clark County Parks District

Preregistration required for this building day of fun. Create a fairy or gnome garden in a container for you. And also use some natural materials to build one to leave outside in the park. 

12. SATURDAY APRIL 30TH 7pm

Beer & Brewing with Aullwood Audubon

Aullwood Farm
9101 Frederick Pike, Dayton, OH 45414

Local craft brewers, food trucks and bands are ready to be enjoyed in this 21+ event. 100% of the ticket price supports environmental education programs. Visit again with the family to experience the Thomas Dambo art installation of giant trolls among the paths.
