National Adoption Day: Why it Matters

2

The Saturday before Thanksgiving is not just any day, it’s National Adoption Day!

It’s a day to raise awareness. Currently, there are more than 111,000 children in the U.S. who are waiting for their adoptive (forever) family. Many of these children have been in foster care for three or more years. In any given year, more than 23,000 children will age out of foster care with no family to call their own.

Last June, I began working as an adoption recruiter for Wendy’s Wonderful Kids! I get to spend every day working with children who are waiting. Waiting for someone to want them, to love them.

National Adoption Day is a day to show these kids waiting there is still hope. Hope they will find their forever family. Proof that every child is adoptable. It’s a day for me to share with friends and family why choosing to adopt is an amazing gift. National Adoption Day celebrates with those families who will forever be bound as one and as a reminder of those still waiting.

Even if you aren’t in a place to adopt, I hope you will stand up with me on National Adoption Day and help find these many children who are waiting a family to call their own.
