Lick the Wallpaper {Life Lessons from Willy Wonka}

0

Willy Wonka is one of my favorite movies (not the new one, but the OG). I watched it as a child and used to pretend to play “finding the golden ticket.” There are so many good morsels in the movie.

There are so many little nuggets of truth in the almost 53-year-old goodie, and as I reflect, I think they are good to share.

Be a good egg.

This lesson is spot on, the bad eggs are, well, recycled. Being a good egg is something we should strive to be in all areas of our lives. Always try your best.

TV can change you.

A little goes a long way and if we let TV become an addiction, then, well, it can change how you are (you can also insert phones or social media into this equation). Don’t become addicted to entertainment.

Don’t suck in the bubbles.

If you suck in the bubble solution, you may fly high for a while and that could be dangerous, and then when you come down, you could hit the ground hard. Be humble.

If you bend over to drink the chocolate, you may fall in.

Chocolate is delish, but if it becomes an unhealthy obsession, then you might get sucked up in a tube. Don’t be selfish.

Don’t listen to Squidward.

Unapologetically be you. Many people will try to whisper in your ear and get you to see things differently than you do or try to get you to lie or cheat. Be who you are and stick with it.

Lick the wallpaper.

This is by far my favorite part of the movie. If you have an opportunity to lick wallpaper (that is sanitary and germ-free), do it. I’ve imagined the intricate flavors of each fruit and imagined licking it my whole life. If there was wallpaper like this in real life, my house would be a wallpapered fruit salad. Don’t be afraid to take chances.

If your kiddos have not seen the OG Willy Wonka, go watch it now. They won’t be disappointed and it will unlock their pure imaginations.

Come with me and you’ll be
In a world of pure imagination
Reach out, touch what was once
Just in your imagination

Don’t be shy, it’s alright
If you feel a little trepidation
Sometimes these things don’t need
Explanation

If you want to view paradise
Simply look at them and view it
Somebody to hold on to, it’s
All we really need
Nothing else to it

Come with me and you’ll be
In a world of pure imagination
Take a look and you’ll see
Into your imagination

We’ll begin with a spin
Traveling in the world of my creation
What we’ll see will defy
Explanation

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Wanna change the world?
There’s nothing to it

There is no life, I know
To compare with pure imagination
Living there, you’ll be free
If you truly wish to be

Hey local mommas! I grew up in Centerville, but I now live in Wilmington with my husband Tony. Together we have 6 kids, Joe, and his wife Allison, Austin, and his wife Hannah, Sydney and her husband Hayden, Andrew and his wife Lauren and our littles, Max and Eli. Did I mention we are a little nuts starting over with this parenting thing when we are 45+? We are officially adding new titles to our names in 2022- Tiki and Jeep (our version of Grandma and Grandpa). My husband and I are both ministers, and we get to work together in a local church. We were both married before and brought our families together in 2010. After a few years of marriage we felt God's leading for us to adopt. We added Max to our family in 2014 and Eli joined us in 2017, our quiver is officially full! Blending our family has been an adventure! Add some ex-spouses and two birth mommas and we have ourselves a crazy crew! Coffee is my love language. The beach is my happy place and I long to have my toes in the sand. I love being part of the team at Dayton Mom Collective.
