One of my favorite things in the entire world is going out on dates with my husband. 19 years ago we went out on our very first date and started a whirlwind of a ride. We would go out to the movies, new restaurants, or at times, even hop in the car and drive to the beach just for a day.
Then, we had kids.
Dating became a mess of finding sitters, moving schedules, and budgeting. We found ourselves putting date night further and further out. We were stuck in a bit of a rut and needing something new that didn’t cost us an arm and a leg.
I had heard about a home delivery date service and so we decided to take a leap and start to “date” each other at home. It has been one of the best decisions we have ever made! Instead of hiring a sitter we can simply have our date after the kiddos go to bed. If the weather gets bad, it’s okay, we don’t have to cancel!
We get weekly challenges (like writing each other a surprise love note), a digital date, and a monthly date that is always a surprise. It has given us an opportunity to try new things and connect without breaking the bank. Even better yet, in the quiet of our own home, we get to spend time with just each other. We don’t have to yell over the restaurant crowds or sit mutely next to each other in a movie. Our conversations are more meaningful. Best yet we have found ourselves finding other options outside of our surprise dates to do at night like puzzles or other games.
Life is hectic and it is so simple to get caught up in the monotony of the day to day but these simple moments are so important in a relationship. At home dates are such a simple, affordable alternative to going out. I just wish we had started doing them sooner!
